Our safety policy extends beyond the processes and safe running of plants to the way they are designed, constructed and the way products are transported, used and disposed off. Safety audits are conducted regularly; eliminating accidents and ensuring that our plants conform to all safety standards. And what’s most significant,with suction drums being installed, atmospheric and rice dust is completely eliminated at the plants.
We also operate a vigorous programme of health protection for our employees, to prevent occupational illnesses and organise health assessments and promotion schemes on a regular basis. The workers are covered under a Group Insurance Scheme, and are provided affordable, nutritionally balanced meals.

The boiler, a major source of pollution in a rice mill, has been fitted with special anti pollution safeguards. The fluidised bed ensures complete combustion of the fuel (husk). The multi-cyclone eliminates the ash particles. A special water treatment plant neutralizes all harmful chemicals. Given its eco-friendly attributes and option for re-use as storage, we use jute bags as a matter of principle. We have taken steps to recycle paper and cans throughout our organisation. In the future we will continue to fine tune our ecosystem management skills and focus on the broader issue of sustainable development – the need to reconcile growth and environmental practices.
Recognising our responsibilities as a caring corporate citizen, we have set up Bhagirathi Agri Educare, a foundation –by pledging 22 cents for every tonne of Basmati and 11 cents for every tonne of Indian long grain rice that we export towards serving the needs of the communities in which we operate. The foundation targets farmers, employees and their families and seeks to empower and build bridges of trust and understanding with them. Special attention is paid to women, children and other disadvantaged sections of our society. The capacity building activities include entrepreneurship, employment generation, education, health and hygiene, career development, financial investments and cultural programmes. Bhagirathi networks with specialised NGOs to enhance its efficiency and reach.
